What is freight rover?

Freight Rover was a British commercial vehicle manufacturer that operated from 1981 to 1986. The company was founded by British Leyland and was based in Birmingham, England. Freight Rover specialized in producing light commercial vehicles, particularly vans and pick-up trucks.

One of Freight Rover's most successful vehicles was the Sherpa van, which was introduced in 1984. The Sherpa was available in various configurations, including a van, minibus, and chassis cab, and was designed for both commercial and passenger transport applications.

In 1986, Freight Rover was merged with Leyland Trucks and DAF Trucks to form Leyland DAF. The brand name "Freight Rover" was subsequently phased out, and its vehicles were rebranded under the Leyland DAF name. Today, the Sherpa van remains a popular classic commercial vehicle among collectors and enthusiasts.
